Warrior horse tramples all over Viagra
Lo Down's intellectual curiosity was recently troubled by a reader's question: what is the most popular anti-impotence drug in Hong Kong?
It seems it all depends on which neighbourhood you are talking about. Ask the owner of any drugstore - not Watson's of course - in red-light Mongkok or Shamshuipo and they will probably tell you it's the legendary Warrior Horse or similar spray-ons.
So it's not Viagra or Cialis? 'They are too expensive. They cost more than the prostitute,' one owner with a store on Temple Street explained. 'Those spray-on brands are the sex drugs of choice, just around $100 a bottle, but there is a discount.'
In fact, Warrior Horse - made from various herbs, ginseng and 'sex-crazed sheep essence', according to its latest ad - is selling for just $78 per bottle, down from $108.
But is it safe? 'People have been known to have died after taking Viagra,' the store owner continued. 'I haven't heard about anything like that with these spray-on bottles. There are urban legends about some guy who had it standing for days, and after it came down, it never went up again.'
And he just sprayed it on his 'little brother'? 'That's what the instructions on the label usually say.'
Thanks for the lesson.
