TFI Friday's 'Gorgeous Girl' breaks silence on segment axe as she admits it was 'dated'

TFI Friday's resident 'Gorgeous Girl' Catalina Guirado has finally broken her silence on why the racy segment was axed – branding it "dated".

Catalina found fame on the show alongside Chris Evans when she was just 21, after ditching her modelling career for the television industry. And though she wasn't keen on the idea at first, she now confesses she had the "best time" on the show.

It was originally a mystery as to why the segment was axed, with Catalina later landing a part in the racy Cat with No Drawers portion of the show. But, in an exclusive chat with Daily Star, she explained the real reason.

I'm A Celeb star Catalina revealed: "I didn’t actually want to do it. I’d never watched the show – I was modelling abroad in Milan and I got fed up with modelling and wanted to quit.

"So I kept getting a casting call for this show called TFI Friday and I’d never seen it, so I kept missing the casting. I told my agent, 'I'm not modelling any more, I want to work at MTV!'

"But they just said, 'Cat, they keep calling and they're getting annoyed that you're not coming in, they want you. Just go to the casting and you don't have to take it!'

"So I did. And it changed my life."

Describing the era of Cool Britannia, Catalina confessed: "TFI was one of the best times of my life. I was 21 and getting to meet amazing people. Chris Evans was great. We all went to the pub [after filming].

"I've actually still got friends who keep in touch from those days. It was an absolutely amazing time to be in your 20s and in London. It was so cool, one of the best times ever."

But it wasn't to last, as in 1997 the Gorgeous Girl segment was gone for good.

Catalina explained: "They kind of got over it. Then they brought me back doing another sketch – I'd find elderly pensioners and give them money. Like, I'd jump out of a taxi and go, 'Here's some money!'

"I did another – very silly – sketch called the Cat with No Drawers which, I mean looking back nowadays, is so dated, the whole thing.

"But the cool part about it was the whole 'Action Cat' bit. It was very Charlie's Angels, Avengers style. Plus, I got to wear the leather catsuit that Joanna Lumley wore in Absolutely Fabulous.

"That, to me, was the coolest thing ever!"
