Hugh Jackman 'hides pain behind his smile' after shock split from his wife

As Hugh Jackman is moving on from the recent split from his wife, his body language is revealing he’s hiding ‘pain behind his smile’, an expert has said.
The movie icon, known for The Greatest Showman and X-Men, announced the break-up with Deborra-Lee Furness earlier this month. Hugh Jackman and his wife had been married for 27 years, but suddenly told fans they were now going their separate ways. The celebrity star has put on a brave face in public and on social media since the sad news. A body language expert has analyzed a recent snap of the star, revealing he may be saying more than meets the naked eye.
He looks ‘so sad’
Body language expert Judi James told The Mirror it appears the Hollywood star has lost his “cheerfulness”.
She explained the 54-year-old is attempting to re-boot to become the upbeat version of himself fans know and love.
In a picture on his Instagram, Hugh was promoting a charity event with Global Citizen. The Wolverine actor can be seen sitting on a chair in a hotel room. He faintly smiles towards the camera, wearing a dark tee with a red circle design on the front.
Ms James said: “His pose looks open and his posture appears to be relaxed. That choice of a black T-shirt with the thick red circle on it seems to project a message of continuity as in ‘Life goes on’.”
She added: “Hugh’s smile looks incongruent, though, because it is asymmetric. One side of his face wears an expression of resigned good-humour, but the other half, (his right side) seen by itself, suggests pain.
“The brow is puckered, with a strong frown line and a strong line between the nostril and the mouth. His mouth on that one side is pulled up slightly at the corner but more in a wince than a smile.”
Hugh Jackman and wife’s shock split announcement
Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra, 67, confirmed they were separating on September 16.
The couple released a statement together to People, writing: “We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage.
“Our journey now is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.
“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority.
“We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
The pair met on the set of Australian TV show, Corelli, back in 1995. They later tied the knot a year later, and adopted son Oscar four years after that. The couple also share daughter Ava together.
The shock breakup comes only five months after they marked their 27th wedding anniversary.
‘It’s a difficult time’
Days after the heartbreaking update, Hugh broke his silence on the split to photographers for the first time.
While in New York City, paps asked how he was following the news.
“It’s a difficult time,” he said.
“I appreciate your thoughts, thank you,” the star kindly said in the short interaction.
In the wake of the split, the Aussie native is said to be leaning on his celebrity pals to get him through the tough time. However, he’s been seen smiling with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, as well as enjoying trips solo. Hugh shared snaps of him enjoying walks in the wilderness on Instagram, showing life moves on.
