Everything Sarah Paulson has said on her relationship with a 32-year age gap

Sarah Paulson has been in a relationship with her girlfriend, fellow actress Holland Taylor, since 2015. Sarah has often gushed about her partner of eight years in both interviews and social media posts.

Hollywood stars Sarah and Holland first met in 2005 at a dinner party. Sarah later recalled Holland “was the most exquisitely beautiful woman” she’d ever seen, even though the pair were both in relationships at the time. It wasn’t until a decade later when the pair became an item in late 2015 after Holland slid into Sarah’s DMs. They have been together ever since.

The celebrity couple took to social media after their romance was confirmed to show each other off in sweet posts on social media. “When captions fail…” wrote Holland on X (formerly Twitter) alongside a picture of Arah in a backless dress facing away from the camera.

Meanwhile, the AHS star called Holland her “favorite actress” in a sweet post featuring a picture of Sarah Paulson’s ticket for the play in which her girlfriend, Holland Taylor, was starring. She wrote: “Last one… @HollandTaylor You sure are a genius. #favoriteactress.”

Sarah then took to X to wish her girlfriend a happy birthday in January 2016. She penned: “Happiest Birthday to @HollandTaylor my most favorite human… No one is more deeply grateful that you were born than I.”

Just a few months later, in March 2016, Sarah said she was “absolutely in love” with Holland.

The 12 Years A Slave actor gushed: “If my life choices had to be predicated based on what was expected of me from a community on either side, that’s going to make me feel really straitjacketed, and I don’t want to feel that. What I can say absolutely is that I am in love, and that person happens to be Holland Taylor.”

In 2018, she opened up about not wanting to be “defined by who I share my bed, my home, my soul with” but she didn’t want to “hide” either.

“My choices in life have been unconventional, and that’s my business,” she explained. “But I do want to live responsibly and truthfully without hiding. It’s complicated, because there is a lot of hate in this world, and a lot of good can come from quote-unquote normalizing something for people who don’t see it as normal.”

The celebrity continued by saying her relationship with Holland “represents a certain amount of hope and risk.”

“Maybe there’s something brave in it,” Sarah admitted. “Maybe it encourages others to make brave choices. What else can I say? We love each other.”

Sarah Paulson welcomed in the new year in 2019 by posting a snap of herself and her girlfriend Holland Taylor to Instagram. Both women were wearing New Year-themed hats while posing for the camera.

Talking about Holland on Andy Cohen’s chat show in 2019, Sarah said: “We met a very, very long time ago. I was with someone else and she was too. We were doing a thing at [actress] Martha Plimpton’s house. It was for an organization that she was working with and we were both doing a little PSA for it.

“We sort of breezed by each other and then started following each other on Twitter… and then …” she explained on the TV episode. But then her American Horror Story co-star Billy Eichner asked if “Holland Taylor slid into your DMs?” which made Sarah laugh. But she had to admit “she actually did” and said it was “pretty great.”

In July 2020, Sarah celebrated Holland’s Emmy nomination on her Instagram in a lengthy and loving caption.

In part, she penned “sometimes you just have to shout from the rooftops in celebration.”

“Sometimes you just can’t contain your joy, and I’m not gonna,” she said. “@hollandvtaylor you are the best of the best, in every and all ways. I am over the moon for you. Congratulations my love.”

Then, in a pretty hilarious moment during an interview with People last year, Sarah, 48, joked with movie star friend Amanda Peel about their age difference.

She jested: “I mean, I love you but I just don’t ever wanna kiss you. I just feel like, particularly because I live with a woman people think that I must really wanna kiss you, and the answer is I really don’t, like, at all.”

Then she delivered the punch line: “No one’s more beautiful. It’s just, you know, you’re not for me. You need to be like 80 years older,” before bursting into laughter.

For Holland’s 79th birthday, Sarah shared a candid picture of her partner. She penned simply: “January 14th is my favorite day of the year- a day to unabashedly celebrate you @hollandvtaylor I am the luckiest of the lucky. I love you only.

Sarah Paulson loves her long captions as she gushed over her girlfriend, Holland Taylor, for her 80th birthday again last year. Sharing a picture of Holland smiling whilst her face was covered, Sarah said: “You’ve changed me. In all the important ways. Sharing my life with you has made everything else make sense. Happiest Birthday to you, Holland V. Taylor. I just want to say thank you. Thank you for loving me. I will never be the same.”

Sarah says Holland is the ‘funniest’ and ‘wisest’ person she’s ever met

In an interview in August, the movie star was extremely complimentary of her girlfriend. She called her the “wisest” and “sexiest” person she had ever met.

Sarah said: “I think she’s the smartest, wisest, funniest, most extraordinary person I’ve ever met. So I can’t imagine not being with her. I just can’t. I just feel very, very lucky to be around someone so incredibly witty and funny and smart and, I think, incredibly sexy.”

The TV star continued: “I find her to be the most beautiful woman. I tell her all the time, like, she’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen and she always will be.”

Just last month, she said: “It makes me want to be a better person and a fully realized person. She just also makes me feel seen, which I think is the most important gift you can give to any person.”

Holland herself has joked about their big age gap: “There’s a very big age difference between us, which I’m sure shocks a lot of people, and it startles me. But as they say, ‘If she dies, she dies.”

However, on a serious note, she has addressed how they do things “separately.”

“I think we each follow our own path so we’re not exactly the same. We do some things separately, so everyone gets to be true to what they believe. She’s much more social, and I like a little bit of alone time, so I have that. She spends some time with friends and not with me, so it’s a good balance.”
