Justin Timberlake appears to break silence over Britney Spears after month of silence
Justin Timberlake seems to have made his first comment about ex-girlfriend Britney Spears’ book after more weeks of keeping quiet.
Justin Timberlake made quite a telling remark before performing one of his biggest hits at a concert in Las Vegas on Wednesday (December 13). It was the music star’s first time performing live in four years, and it was a big one. He performed in front of some A-listers such as Kim Kardashian and Cher. He sang some of his biggest hits, such as Sexyback and Senorita.
During the performance, the former NSYNC member introduced his song Cry Me a River.
But before he did so, he told the crowd: “No disrespect.”
Though to many this may seem like a passive comment, Britney Spears has recently opened up about her relationship with Justin Timberlake in her book, The Woman in Me. So this could be seen as his first, if not quite subtle and short, comment on the matter.
The celebrity couple’s relationship, which lasted for three years between 1999 and 2002, came to an end after it was alleged that Britney was unfaithful. The incident is also where the inspiration from this song is said to come from, hence his choice of words and song.
‘Everyone felt sorry for him’
Britney opened up about Cry Me a River in her memoir and said the song and its singer “shamed” her. She wrote she doesn’t believe the 42-year-old “realizes his power.”
“‘Cry Me a River’ did very well. Everyone felt very sorry for him. And it shamed me. I felt there was no way at the time to tell my side of the story. I couldn’t explain, because I knew no one would take my side once Justin had convinced the world of his version. I don’t think Justin realized the power he had in shaming me. I don’t think he understands to this day,” the celebrity wrote.
A source told Entertainment Tonight Justin Timberlake is “focusing on his family” amid the release of Britney Spears’ book. He is “trying not to concern himself with Britney’s memoir.
“In recent years, Justin has tried to be supportive of Britney from a distance. They dated so long ago, but he still has respect for her. Justin and Jessica just want everyone to grow and evolve instead of continuing to bring up the past.”

Underneath a TikTok video posted by a fan in attendance, the app’s users have been responding with their thoughts on his words.

However, others have said they are “team Justin.”

Justin Timberlake’s breakup text to Britney Spears revealed in her book
Before her book came out, a director who was filming Britney Spears’ music video spoke out about the day Justin Timberlake broke things off with his partner of three years.
Taking to Instagram, he wrote: “At some point during the 2nd shift Brit disappeared and I went to her trailer to fetch her…only to discover her BF Justin had just broken up with her via text message. (Let me recommend to any who reads this: don’t break up via text!),” he wrote.
“We sat on the floor of her trailer for a minute, talked it out, and then rallied. I told her she should get out there & show Justin he made the biggest mistake of his life. That was just one of the stories from this shoot…”
